Polina Liiv is a mezzo-soprano and a member of the ensemble of the Finnish National Opera and Ballet.

Born in Krasnoyarsk, Siberia, she began her career at the Children’s Opera Studio of the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre and continued her musical training in Russia and Italy, including a residency at the Saluzzo Opera Academy.

Polina joined the ensemble of the Finnish National Opera and Ballet in 2017. Her repertoire ranges from Mozart to contemporary opera and includes Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro, the Page of Herodias in Salome, Costanza in Haydn’s L’isola disabitata, Meg Giry in The Phantom of the Opera, and Sonetka in Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk.

In 2025, Polina made her debut in the title role of Hänsel in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel, in the production originally created by Richard Jones for Lyric Opera of Chicago.

In 2026, she made her debut as Trine in Mark-Anthony Turnage’s Festen. In summer 2026, she was a Resident Artist at the Bastide Opera Festival in Villefranche-de-Rouergue, France, where she performed as Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro in a production directed by Jonathan Eaton.

Alongside her operatic work, Polina is active as a concert soloist. Her concert repertoire includes Mozart’s Requiem, Stabat Mater by Vivaldi and Stabat Mater by Pergolesi.

Polina has been a semifinalist in international competitions, including the Elizabeth Connell Prize Competition in 2025 and the Simándy József International Singing Competition in 2024.

Her upcoming engagements at the 2026/27 include the role of Laurene Powell Jobs in The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs, the Second Bridesmaid in Le nozze di Figaro, and performances in the Finnish National Opera’s Christmas Concert with the Finnish National Opera Orchestra.

She will also make her debut as New Ofglen in Poul Ruders’ The Handmaid’s Tale.
